Slitting

Slitting of metal involves the process of unwinding metal coils and passing the material through knives before being rewinding back into coil form. This process produces multiple narrower strips of metal known as mults (short for multiple) that become new coils in smaller widths.

Cut-to-Length

Cut-to-Length processing of metal involves unwinding metal coils and passing the material through a shear which cuts the coil into flat sheets of a set length. This process produces multiple sheets of metal with the same width and material specifications as the original master coil but in sheet form.

In-Line Slear

An in-line slear provides the ability to both slit and cut-to-length metal coils. Similar to slitting and cut-to-length processes, this process involves unwinding metal coils and passing the material through either knives or a shear to produce the desired outcome. In short, in-line slearing produces either multiple sheets of metal with the same width and material specifications as the original master coil but in sheet form or multiple narrower strips of metal that become new coils in smaller widths, depending on the needs of the customer.
